History

Oskar Vorwerk of Hamburg began breeding it around 1900–02. He wanted a more useful smallholder bird than the Lakenvelder, with buff so dirt wouldn't show. He used Lakenvelder, Buff Orpington, Andalusian and Hittfelder (poultrykeeper) or Buff Sussex (Wikipedia). It was exhibited from 1912 and standardised by 1913. It appeared in the UK as the 'Buff Lakenvelder' in 1935 and returned in the 1970s.
