Ixworth chicken
The Ixworth is a rare white British table breed, created to grow fast with good meat while still laying reasonably.
The Ixworth is a pure-bred chicken breed in the PCGB Rare Soft Feather Heavy class. Its origin is given as Ixworth, Suffolk, England (Reginald Appleyard, 1932). It appears on the RBST Watchlist as a priority breed, so keepers of pure stock help conserve it.
It is kept in large and bantam forms. Recognised colours: White only. Typical adult weights: cock about 4.1 kg, hen about 3.2 kg, bantam cock about 1.02 kg and bantam hen about 790 g.
Expect roughly 160–200 eggs a year, with tinted shells. It is mainly kept for eggs and for the table.

History
Reginald Appleyard, creator of the Silver Appleyard duck, bred it in 1932 at Ixworth, Suffolk, from White Sussex, White Minorca, White Orpington and several Indian Game varieties. It was standardised in 1939. A bantam was created (Wikipedia says 1938; poultrykeeper says after the war, and believes it has since died out in the UK). It almost vanished in the 1970s, then slowly recovered.
