History
Its origin is unknown. Crested fowl appear in 15th-century Italian and Dutch art. The name may come from the country or from Middle Dutch 'pol' (head). It was once a utility table and egg bird, and was kept in France for eggs. It was shown in London in 1845, and bantams followed in the late 1800s.
Appearance
A large crest over a domed skull, with a small V comb that may be hidden. Bearded, non-bearded and frizzle forms exist.
