History
The Araucana comes from Chile, and its early history is undocumented. Spanish aviculturist Salvador Castelló saw the birds on a 1914 visit and named them 'Gallina Araucana' after the Araucanía region. British and American standards differ: the American Araucana is rumpless, and in the US the tailed type became the Ameraucana. The ABA standardised it in 1965 and the APA in 1976.
