History

Albert Franz of Chemnitz bred it in the 1930s from German Pekin, Rouen and Blue Pomeranian ducks, and first showed it in 1934. The war wiped out most of his stock. From 1952 he rebuilt the breed from survivors and the parent breeds. It was standardised in East Germany in 1957 and West Germany in 1958. Britain followed in 1982 and America in 2000.

Appearance

Wild-colour light phase plus double blue dilution. The drake has a blue-grey head and a chestnut breast, and the duck is buff. Poultrykeeper gives drakes about 3.6 kg and ducks about 3.2 kg.
