History

Tom Bartlett created it at Folly Farm in Gloucestershire in the late 1980s. Folly Farm kept around 130 poultry breeds and also helped revive the large Silver Appleyard. The BWA standardised the Miniature in 1997. To avoid confusion, Reginald Appleyard's earlier 'Silver Appleyard Bantam' was renamed the Silver Bantam at the same time. The Miniature is not in the American Standard.

Suitability

Good to know
Don't confuse it with the Silver Bantam. That breed is a different cross and looks more like an Abacot Ranger.

Conservation status (RBST)

Not on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust's priority list.
